An enchanted palm forest situated on a bend of the mandina bolong (river)

. Base camp is the spiritual soul of Makasutu where the ever rising and falling tide constantly changes the feeling of the area.
Base Camp has been sensitively designed to enhance what nature has created. Sit in the bantaba/pavillion on the banks of the bolong, watching the monkey’s playing and hunting for crabs to eat on the sand bank at low tide, and the oyster women plying their trade when the river is full.
All visitors to Makasutu pass through Base Camp on their journey through the forest, but for a better understanding of the area there are two further options possible:
The `Bush Trackers Breakfast´ is a chance to study, track and observe the wildlife and environment for a greater understanding of the eco-systems of Makasutu and The Gambia. This is an early morning

excursion, exploring the forest, following the baboons as they pass through the canopy in search of food, marvel as the dawn chorus breaks turning Base Camp into a colourful display of tropical birds

singing in the start of a new day. There is a chance to see mongoose playing in water pools or maybe monitor lizards lazily strolling along the river bank in search of breakfast.
